More About Flights to Anaheim

Flying Into John Wayne Airport Orange County (SNA)

One option for visiting Anaheim is to fly into John Wayne Airport Orange County (SNA). Despite its relatively small size, John Wayne Airport is serviced by a number of airlines, including major carriers. Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines*, United Airlines, and US Airways, are among the airlines that currently have scheduled routes in and out of John Wayne Airport.

Flying Into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Given its sheer size, flights into LAX are more plentifu than to John Wayne Orange County. There is a good chance flights might be cheaper in and out of LAX, and schedules more convenient, but definitely compare the overall savings on which is more cost effective. John Wayne might be more expensive, but if it shaves off several hours of travel time, you have to decide what's most important. Dealing with LAX can be a headache even on the slowest of days, and if air travel already stresses you out, it may be worth concentrating your flight search on SNA.

Getting to and Around Anaheim

Whether you choose to fly into Los Angeles International Airport or John Wayne Orange County, getting to Anaheim may be arranged with your hotel via resort shuttle or other services like Super Shuttle or a rental car.

Once you're in Anaheim, look up options like Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) buses. Eco-friendly buses operate every 20 minutes from important landmarks and lodging options. These inexpensive buses take you between points of interest like your hotel to Disneyland or Angels Stadium. There are even scheduled stops for neighboring cities and attractions like the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana or Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.

Pay attention to flight arrival times in LAX and SNA as getting to Anaheim can take a lot longer if you are stuck battling rush hour traffic in Los Angeles and Orange County. Traffic headed towards Orange County in the late afternoon and early evening can be absolutely brutal, while mornings and evenings can offer some decent traffic delays out of John Wayne.

Best Time to Visit Anaheim

Any time of the year is a good time to visit Anaheim. There is always something going on, no matter whether it's a trade show at the Anaheim Convention Center, sporting events and concerts, or seasonal events at Disneyland. When you choose to visit Anaheim depends entirely on your budget and anticipated itinerary. If you want to avoid crowds at Disneyland and the coastal areas near Anaheim, consider foregoing a trip during the height of the summer season.

Spring is a great time to visit, while temperatures are still mild and kids are not out for Spring Break yet. Just after the kids head back to school in the fall is also another ideal time in Anaheim since Disneyland tends to be less crowded. The trade-off is that operating hours are often reduced in September and October.

If you are a fan of all things macabre, October might actually be the ideal time to plan a trip to Anaheim. Disneyland holds the separate admission Mickey's Halloween Party on select nights, while nearby Knott's Berry Farm turns into Knott's Scary Farm at night, complete with walking zombies, terrifying mazes, and Halloween-themed decor everywhere. Renting a car? Make it a Halloween trip and hit other seasonal events like Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights or take a ghost tour of the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
