More About Flights to Birmingham

Fly into Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

BHM airport is Alabama's biggest airport and serves Birmingham and the surrounding area. It sees more than 100 flights each day and is located right within the city, making it the most convenient airport when flying into Birmingham. They fly five major airlines: American, Delta, Southwest*, US Airways, and United, so searching for cheap flights between these five airlines should be easy.

Save Money and Stay Near the Airport

Three cheap hotels are within two miles of BHM airport: Relax Inn Birmingham, Clarion Hotel and Conference Center Birmingham, and Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport. The Birmingham Garden Inn and Comfort Inn Airport are also quite close. You can find great deals on rooms at these hotels and be conveniently near the airport and the city's attractions.

Avoid Big NASCAR Events at Talladega Superspeedway

Talladega Superspeedway is about forty miles from Birmingham, which is a great perk for NASCAR fans. However, there are two weekends you'll want to avoid if you're not travelling to Alabama specifically for a NASCAR event: both sprint cup series, which happen in May and October. Birmingham is the nearest large city, so hotels book fast and rooms go up in price on these weekends. Finding cheap flights and hotels won't be ideal on Talladega event weekends.

Rent a Car Instead of Taking the Bus

Birmingham isn't known for its public transportation. They do have a bus line, the BJCTA MAX, and you can map out your route via their website. The fare for a typical ride is $1.25, however, so if you're traveling in a group or plan to do a lot of switching locations, that can add up very quickly. Considering you can book cars for under $20 a day if you do it far enough in advance, getting to and from the airport, as well as anywhere else in Birmingham you may be going, will be much easier if you rent a car.
