More About Flights to Galveston

Accessing Galveston Through Houston Airports

Get to Galveston by flying into either George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) or Houston Hobby Airport (HOU). While IAH is a little further from Galveston, at about 61 miles away, it services 21 major airlines, including international flights. HOU is about 37 miles from Galveston, but it only services five airlines: AirTran, American, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest. If you can find a flight out of your home city on one of those airlines, flying into HOU is your best bet.

Airport Transportation To and From Galveston

After arriving at either IAH or HOU, there are several options for getting to the island of Galveston. Both airports offer shared shuttle services, sedans, and limousines to and from Galveston. Taxis are also available, and are usually a more affordable option. Rental cars can be arranged when booking your hotel and flight options.

Spring and Fall Are Budget-Friendly

While Galveston is stunning year-round, it’s best to visit before May and after September, to avoid high season. The weather is most enjoyable in the late spring and early fall, and prices tend to be lower during these times. It’s also wise to avoid hurricane season, which lasts June through November.

Tour the Island by Train or Boat

Once in Galveston, there are a number of tours available. The Treasure Isle Tour Train takes you on a 17-mile ride around the island to see all that Galveston has to offer. Tickets are only $10 for adults, making this an affordable way to see the sights. The Colonel Paddlewheel Boat is an elegant sternwheeler with a 650-passenger capacity that cruises around the island. Tickets for the Colonel are just $10.50 for adults.
