More About Flights to Saint Louis

The Finest Times to Fly to St. Louis

Early autumn and spring are the top times to revel in St. Louis’ walkable local attractions. These months are punctuated by annual, fun-filled festivals.

However, wintertime presents prime opportunities to score deals since most travelers are leery of just-above-freezing temps. Brave the cold, and you might find some of the best bargains.

An International Airline Hub

Aside from general aviation airports, Lambert–St. Louis International Airport is the only commercial local landing strip. The architecturally spectacular arched building features two terminals and two concourses. The airport provides service from 11 airlines plus global flights and charters.

Visitors can enjoy convenient dining options including everything from breakfast to beer. Leading locations include specialty restaurants and favorites such as Starbucks and California Pizza Kitchen.

Abundant Airline Service Options

Knowing where to land is half the battle. Booking an affordable flight starts with the airline. Lambert–St. Louis International Airport prominently features Southwest Airline* flights. Southwest accounts for 11 of Lambert’s 88 gates. Southwest features the most gates of any Lambert airline.

United Air Lines and Delta Air Lines follow Southwest as leading service providers with five and six gates respectively. Other key airlines include American Airlines and US Airways. Many of these airlines offer direct flights to St. Louis, MO.

Expedient Airport Transportation

The St. Louis County airport is just an 11-mile drive from downtown St. Louis with access via I-70, I-170, and I-270. Affordable shared rides are available through Go Best Express – one of the quickest ways to get from baggage claim to the road.

For public transportation options, visitors will find easy access to the MetroLink with pickup stations available in Terminals 1 and 2. To head downtown, riders must take an eastbound train from the MetroLink station in Terminal 1. Those heading back to the airport from the downtown center should take the westbound line.

Certain nearby hotels, including the Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel and the budget-friendly Quality Inn St. Louis Airport Hotel, provide complimentary shuttles to and from the hotel. Keep in mind, these locations are not central to downtown St. Louis and may not be ideal for tourists who wish to spend most of their time in the heart of the city.

Arching Toward Other Area Attractions

Of course, the St. Louis Arch, also known as the Gateway Arch, is a must-see landmark. The 630-foot tall shiny bow, built in 1963, frames downtown St. Louis and sets the tone for the city’s other historical sites.

If you’re looking for something a little more experiential, then wander the grounds of the lush Missouri Botanical Garden or Forest Park. The Saint Louis Zoo is an exciting, family-friendly location.

For dining and nightlife, tourists should experience the trendy, local neighborhood known as The Loop, which features restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and concert venues. However, there are many social spots located throughout the city-center including 360 Rooftop (known for its stunning views).
