More About Flights to Scottsdale

A Visit to America's Friendliest Airport

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (recently named "America's Friendliest Airport" by a passenger vote) is less than 10 miles from downtown Scottsdale. It is the largest commercial airport in the Southwest. Nearly 1200 flights a day come through this busy airport, and 101 cities offer non-stop flights, so finding a cheap flight is easy. It's served by 65 airlines, the major ones being Southwest Airlines* (for which it's a "focus city"), United Airlines, and US Airways. PHX is a primary regional hub and gateway for Mexican and Hawaiian departures for its largest carrier US Airways.

For those requiring a little sustenance, PHX offers a variety of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options in addition to traditional airport fare.

Free WiFi is yet another reason to love Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Take a Hotel Shuttle and Save Money

Because downtown Scottsdale is close to the PHX airport, many hotels offer free transportation. Since Scottsdale has a number of transportation options, including the free Scottsdale Trolley, renting a car may not be necessary. A few of the local hotels offering great deals and free shuttle service are: Hotel Valley Ho, Hospitality Suite Resort, and the Chaparral Suites Scottsdale

Rental cars are available at the airport, as are taxis and other ground transportation. Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Mesa are served by the Valley Metro Transit system, which includes the METRO Light Rail System, Valley Metro LINK Bus, the Scottsdale Downtown Trolley, and more. To access the Light Rail from the airport take the PHX Skytrain from Terminal 4 to the 44th Street and Washington PHX Sky Train Station. Cross the pedestrian bridge and take the escalator to the METRO Light Rail stop. The Light Rail all-day pass is an economical $4.00. There is very limited access to Scottsdale from the Light Rail. Guests choosing this option will need to make transfers and take either the bus or the trolley to their destination.

Summer Offers the Deepest Discounts

The best deals in Scottsdale occur during the summer. With desert temps in the 90s and higher, outside activities aren't for the faint of heart or the easily sunburned, but those willing to tolerate the heat score big for their efforts with some of the lowest prices of the year. Some hotels discount their rates up to 60% off and add in bonuses like spa treatments, a round of golf, and/or meals. Scottsdale offers a range of lodging choices from luxury spa getaways to water parks for the kids.

While summer brings Scottsdale's best hotel rates, air prices tend to be higher. The fall ushers in unpredictable temps (between the 60s and the 90s) and increased precipitation. The hotel rates are slightly higher during this time but are offset by lower flight prices.

Unless paying top dollar is on a visitor's list of things to do, January-March trips are best avoided as that blissful warm air and delightful desert blooms fetch high prices at hotels.

Cheap Rooms Mean More Shopping

Known as the "Beverly Hills of the Southwest," Scottsdale offers some spectacular upscale shopping and boutiques. The Scottsdale Fashion Square provides miles of high-end shopping and dining. Downtown Scottsdale's Art District offers exceptional pieces. Looking for a pair of boots that make a statement? Try Saba's Western Wear.
