The Alexandria Archaeology Museum, in Old Town, is a working lab where volunteers and staff wash, sort, and catalogue recently excavated artifacts. There is an exhibit on the excavation of an Alexandria city block, revealing artifacts from the 18th and 19th centuries, including a support complex for Civil War hospitals during the Union occupation of the city. Admission is free.
