Visit the Site of the Fight for Freedom

The library was built in 1940 for the use of the black community, following a sit-in at the segregated Alexandria Library that was a harbinger of the coming Civil Rights Movement. The museum has a recommended admission of $2, and includes the Watson Reading Room and the Alexandria African American Heritage Park, offering nine beautiful acres of green space for reflection and celebration.

Sleep Within Reach of History

The Sheraton Suites Alexandria is a two-block walk from the museum, and is within walking distance of historic attractions like the Lee-Fendall House, John Carlyle House, and Market Square. The Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria is a bit further - about eight blocks by foot - but is adjacent to Montgomery Park, offering tennis courts and a playground. It is also just two blocks from the bustling tourist activity of the scenic Potomac River waterfront.
