Visit the Site of the Fight for Freedom

The library was built in 1940 for the use of the black community, following a sit-in at the segregated Alexandria Library that was a harbinger of the coming Civil Rights Movement. The museum has a recommended admission of $2, and includes the Watson Reading Room and the Alexandria African American Heritage Park, offering nine beautiful acres of green space for reflection and celebration.

The Sheraton Suites Alexandria is a two-block walk from the museum, and is within walking distance of historic attractions like the Lee-Fendall House, John Carlyle House, and Market Square.
