"Hipmunk is the best travel site on the Web. Period."
"Stands out for its fun, interactive and deal-scoring features."
“With a wealth of popular attractions, Anaheim is one of the most visited cities in California. However, there are still deals to be had.”
With a wealth of popular attractions like the Disneyland Resort or Anaheim Convention Center, along with cool outdoor shopping areas, it's no surprise that Anaheim is one of the most visited cities in California. However, many of these attractions are not the most budget-friendly, and could deter travelers looking for cheap hotel deals. If you're on a tight budget, but looking to enjoy a day at Disneyland or catch a game at Angel Stadium, rest assured there are budget-friendly hotels in Anaheim. Consider visiting Disneyland during less busy times of the year, like when kids are back in school, and watch event calendars to avoid busy convention periods that can cause hikes in hotel prices.

More About Anaheim, CA Hotels...

Picking the Right Time to Visit Anaheim

Anaheim enjoys mild temperature changes throughout the year, with an average high of 66 degrees Fahrenheit in winter and 77 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Summer sees the biggest influx of visitors to Anaheim and Disneyland. This means that prices could also be higher on hotel rooms, and certainly the crowds bigger.

Consider visiting during March through May, when it's spring, and less crowded at Disneyland, before all the kids get out of school for summer vacation. Attendance drops in September and October as well, when the kids go back to school. You can score some of the best deals during this period, but it's also when operating hours are at their shortest.

Some inexpensive hotels near Disneyland include Candy Cane Inn, Park Vue Inn, Best Western, Howard Johnson, Days Inn Anaheim West, and Red Lion Anaheim. For those on a budget, these hotels represent an excellent value as compared to official Disney Hotels.

Sightseeing in Anaheim

After spending a few days exploring the Disneyland Resort, are you wondering what else there is to do in Anaheim? Check schedules to see if there are any events at Angel Stadium or the Honda Center, or take advantage of Anaheim's moderate climate and enjoy window shopping at one of the cool outdoor shopping malls, like the Outlets at Orange. Or, hit a museum or the Discovery Science Center in neighboring Santa Ana.

Hotels nearby to Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the Honda Center include TownePlace Suites by Marriott Anaheim Maingate/Angel Field, Ayres Hotel Anaheim, and Extended Stay America - Orange County - Katella Ave in Orange.

Many travelers don't realize how close Anaheim is to Buena Park, which offers a number of cool attractions. Spend a day at Knott's Berry Farm or Knott's Soak City Water Park. Check out a show at Pirate's Dinner Adventure or Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. Or, give in to your morbid curiosity and visit Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum.

When compared to Anaheim, hotel rates in Buena Park tend to be cheaper and more stable year round. Hotels closest to the convention center and Disneyland are the priciest options, but staying in Buena Park offers an affordable option while still being a short drive or public transport ride away.

Knott's Berry Farm Hotel is the official hotel for the theme park and offers packages to both Knott's Berry Farm and Knott's Soak City Water Park. Other hotels located near the theme park along Beach Boulevard include Holiday Inn Buena Park, Radisson Suites Buena Park, and Courtyard by Marriott Anaheim. Cheaper and more budget hotels in the area include Rodeway Inn Near Maingate Knott's, Besthost Inn, and Knight's Inn Buena Park.

Note: staying near Knott's Berry Farm during nights in October when Knott's Scary Farm is taking place may mean getting stuck in lengthy traffic jams as traffic backs up on the freeway and Beach Boulevard as guests arrive for the separate admission event.

Airport Shuttles and Anaheim Transportation

Anaheim is conveniently located to several airports, including Los Angeles International (LAX) and John Wayne Airport (SNA). Unless you are renting a car, the cost of a shuttle from LAX all the way down to Anaheim can be pricey. John Wayne Airport is in Orange County and a lot closer to Anaheim, but flight options are much more limited, and prices can be much higher. It's best to price out a few different options and see which saves you the most money.

Other airports a little further out you may also want to consider are Long Beach Airport (LGB), LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT), and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank (BUR).

If you aren't staying at a hotel near Disneyland and need to get around, check out the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) buses. These eco-friendly buses run every 20 minutes from various lodging establishments, the Anaheim Convention Center, the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim GardenWalk, and Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Some hotels with ART bus stops include Dolphins Cove Resort, Peacock Suites, Holiday Inn Anaheim Resort, and Anabella Hotel.

Hostels in Anaheim

Unlike a lot of other cities, Anaheim does not have a big hostel scene. There is one hostel, Orange Mango Garden Hostel, which is more like a room share in a Santa Ana private home. Check the rates and availability. It might be worthwhile to consider AirBNB options or cheap motels around Disneyland if Orange Mango Garden Hostel is unavailable.

AirBNB Lodging in Anaheim

Anaheim is an ideal destination to seek our private lodging options through services like AirBNB and HomeAway. Options range from private rooms to six-bedroom homes. Depending on the size of your party, choosing AirBNB rentals can work out cheaper, as you can save additional money by purchasing groceries and eating at home versus expensive theme park eats.

Private room listings on AirBNB are definitely cheaper than motel lodging options near Disneyland, but it also means you will have to factor in transportation costs, as most of these listings are likely to be further out from Disneyland.

Private homes are slightly more expensive than some budget hotels, but when factoring in food costs, especially for a larger family, the expense can definitely add up at fast food restaurants and concession stands inside Disneyland. Save money by preparing meals at home.

Helpful Resources for Planning Your Anaheim Vacation

To get your Anaheim vacation off the ground, start by looking at important websites like Disneyland and Anaheim Tourism. If you are flying, be sure do flight searches to see whether it's cheaper to fly in to Los Angeles International and take a more expensive shuttle, or take on a little higher flight cost for cheaper local transportation.

Use Priceline to compare rental car deals -- sometimes you can score an excellent deal from LAX rental car locations, otherwise unavailable elsewhere. If you're hoping to visit more than just Anaheim, a rental car may be the perfect answer. Popular destinations like San Diego and Palms Springs are within a few hours' drive, and Las Vegas is less than four hours away from Anaheim.

When it comes to planning your Disneyland visit, check out some of the more popular Disney planning sites like MiceChat, and apps that offer assistance on Disneyland tips and tricks.

Explore Anaheim Resort Transportation's website to see various routes. If you are hoping to utilize this Anaheim transportation service, be sure the hotels you are considering are along one of the ART routes.

Do an online search for dining deals and discounts in the Anaheim area. There are always online specials, printable coupons, and some restaurants even offer free meals to kids. Check shopping center websites for printable coupons you can use for entertainment and shopping discounts.

And for your lodging, be sure to use Hipmunk for finding the best deals.
