Anaheim is one of the most populated cities in all of California and has gained international recognition for Disneyland, its sports teams, and a huge convention center. Founded by 50 German families in the mid 1800's, the city gets its name "Ana" from the Santa Ana River nearby and "heim" from a common German word originally meaning home. While the city is one of the most populated in the state, the bulk of the hotels are primarily clustered around its key attractions. Despite being home to luxury resort hotels like Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, cheaper and more budget hotels in the area include Candy Cane Inn and Best Western. In recent years, larger chains like Hilton, Sheraton, and Marriott have opened hotels in the Anaheim area.
