“Annapolis is best visited in summer, as the weather is warm, and the Chesapeake Bay is enticing.”
Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, is just 25 miles south of Baltimore and 32 miles east of the capital of the United States, Washington, D.C. In fact, Annapolis once served as the temporary capital of the U.S. from 1783-84. Due to its small size and close proximity to its mega-metropolitan neighbors, Annapolis is a hub for inexpensive accommodations, such as Motel 6, Super 8, and Best Western. All are close to the Naval Academy and Chesapeake Bay and for those who might be doing business in the much larger cities and want a quiet respite at the end of the day.

Stepping back in Time on a Budget

Annapolis is best visited in summer, as the weather is warm, and the Chesapeake Bay is enticing. However, off-season months offer even more savings but will not detract from things to see. In addition to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis has more 18th-century buildings than any other city in America, which can be visited in any kind of weather in any season and make the visitor seem like they’ve stepped back into colonial times. If doing business in D.C., staying near the train station is your best bet. But if in town for leisure, hotels near the Chesapeake Bay and historic downtown are ideal.
