Grand Hotel: Home of Ristorante Frescati

Grand Hotel, a member of the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, has a lot to offer travelers. The property is one block from the main train station, two blocks from Tivoli Gardens, and three blocks from both budget and upscale shopping on Strøget. The hotel’s concierge services offers tours and tickets help. Ristorante Frescati provides a buffet breakfast (a surcharge applies) and serves Mediterranean and Italian food for lunch and dinner. Other amenities include a bar/lounge, safe deposit box at the 24-hour front desk, and meeting rooms.

Nearby Attraction: Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens, opened in 1843, is the second oldest amusement park in the world. The best known ride in the park is Rutschebanen, dating from 1914. This ride, also known as Bjergbanen (the Mountain Coaster), is one of the oldest wooden roller coasters still operating today. Tivoli Gardens is also a city park containing more than 400,000 flowers, including 65,000 tulips. Tourists and residents enjoy visiting the park at night, seeing it illuminated by more than 111,000 custom designed colored lights.

Nearby Shopping: Strøget

Car-free Strøget is Copenhagen’s largest shopping area and one of the longest pedestrian malls in Europe. Visitors enjoy making purchases in budget establishments as well as the stores selling some of Europe's upscale brands. Take a break from shopping and have a drink or dine in one of the restaurants here.

Stay Fit

Day passes for Fitness DK, a fitness center two blocks from Grand Hotel, are available at the hotel’s front desk at a surcharge. Explore Copenhagen by bicycle, moped, or scooter. Rental facilities are near the hotel. Hiking and mountain biking trails offer a chance to get away from it all for a few hours. Sailing is also available nearby.

Guest Rooms Have Free Wi-Fi

Guests appreciate having free wireless Internet access in their room. Other amenities include flat panel television with cable service, telephone, and blackout curtains or drapes. Cribs and infant beds are available upon request.

The Bottom Line

Closeness to Copenhagen’s Central Station makes this property convenient for guests arriving by train or airplane. Rather than take a taxi from the airport to Grand Hotel, save money by taking a train. Constructed in 1890, the refurbished guest rooms are different sizes. Ask to see your room before checking in. Copenhagen Plaza, another property close to Tivoli Gardens, has similar amenities, but the room rates are higher.

The charm of the old structure, where celebrities -- the "Who's Who of Yesterday" -- used to stay, was preserved and respected.
