Stylish Boutique Hotel in an Old Church

Unique Design in a Convenient Location

Glasshouse Edinburgh tucks its stylish, modern rooms into a refurbished 160-year-old church building. In the reception area, the Henderson art gallery displays contemporary Scottish art. The hotel features a rooftop garden with views of the city. Marriott Rewards members earn points for their stay here, since the hotel is a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection.

Explore Royal Edinburgh

The hotel's roof garden offers views of Calton Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the seat of the Scottish government. Back at ground level, guests head out of the hotel to explore Edinburgh.

Transportation to and from the hotel is easy; it's less than half an hour to the airport by taxi. A tram stop is three minutes from the hotel; trams reach the airport as well as Edinburgh. The train station is just a five-minute walk from the hotel.

Tourist attractions, including Edinburgh Castle, the National Portrait Gallery, and Holyroodhouse, are all within walking distance. The hotel is next to the Edinburgh Playhouse, so returning to your room after the evening's entertainment is simple.

Garden Access Rooms

Some of the hotel's rooms have terraces with direct access to the rooftop garden. The furniture in each room is contemporary and uniquely styled, and in some rooms, the bed "floats" in the middle of the room and has a sitting area behind it. All rooms include WiFi, Nespresso coffee machines, and docks for iPhones.

Room furnishings include twin, double, or king size beds. Guests with allergies or sensitivities can ask for hypoallergenic bedding.

Executive rooms include a complimentary minibar and chocolates upon arrival, plus shoeshine service and other amenities. Studio suites include a complimentary drink of whisky.

Relax by the Fire

In the seating area, the fire is a cozy place to sit and enjoy a taste of Scottish whisky. The bar and snacks are self-serve, creating a relaxed environment.

The Glasshouse Edinburgh afternoon tea requires advanced booking. Enjoy a variety of foods, including sandwiches, cakes, cookies, and scones. Choose a pot of tea to enjoy with your food.

Order a continental style breakfast or a cooked to order Scottish breakfast. Both breakfast and dinner meals can be served in guest rooms.

There are many restaurants and pubs near the hotel and throughout Edinburgh for visitors to enjoy dining outside the hotel.

The Bottom Line

The Glasshouse offers an uncommonly relaxing experience to its guests.

Expert Reviews
Glass walls extend from the 19th-century facade of a former church, foreshadowing the daring interior of one of the city's original boutique hotels.
Arguably, the nicest feature is the hotel's roof garden. Replete with lawns, an arch-shaped covered deck, and all-weather armchairs, it's the only one in the city.
Rough Guide
This ultra-hip hotel has 65 chichi rooms with push-button curtains and sliding doors opening onto a huge, lush roof garden scattered with Philippe Starck furniture.
