Reasonably Priced Hotel Located Near Famous Florentine Sites

Experience the History of Florence Within Walking Distance

History buffs and romantics alike are sure to enjoy the Orto dei Medici Hotel, with its proximity to historical sites and its location within an eighteenth-century townhouse. Orto dei Medici directly translates to Garden of the Medici, and the hotel's interior garden gives the property its name. The nearby Florence Hotel is able to offer the same geographic conveniences, but it can't compete with the historical setting of the Orto dei Medici. It's conveniently located a short distance from the Santa Maria Novella train station. The hotel's rooms are inexpensive, and the service is top-notch.

See Michelangelo's David and More

Perhaps one of the most famous pieces of Renaissance art, Michelangelo's David resides at the Accedemia di Belle Arti di Firenze, just a few blocks away from the hotel. The art history doesn't stop there, though. Connected to the Accedemia is the Uffizi Gallery, which is one of the oldest museums in the world. Today the Uffizi is known for its collection of art that dates from the Renaissance all the way to the twentieth century.

Consider making a stop at the Cathedral of Florence, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. It was a marvel of architecture when it was built during the Renaissance era, and it's still stunning today.

There's no bad time to visit Florence. The city's moderate temperatures mean that it is a year-round city for tourism. Go when it's most convenient to travel.

Rooms With a Period Feel

All of the hotel's rooms have modern conveniences, such as a free WiFi connection, telephone, air conditioning, and satellite TV. All of these modern conveniences are combined with furniture that creates an eighteenth century atmosphere. Standard rooms have enough space for two people, while the Quadruple suite is perfect for a family of four. All rooms have sound proof walls, so no one has to hear their neighbor sneeze.

The Bottom Line

Staff at the Orto dei Medici are very helpful and are willing to go the extra distance for guests. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained. Showers are large enough to comfortably accommodate taller individuals. The breakfast buffet is excellent and caters to travelers from abroad. The terrace is restored to its historical design, giving the feeling of being in a hotel that's a part of living history.

DK Eyewitness
Ten minutes on foot from the Duomo, and five from the Accademia, this mid-19th century building has large frescoes in its lounges and breakfast room.
The boutique, mid-range Hotel Orto De Medici is located incentral Florence, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, public transportation, and popular attractions.
Lonely Planet
Redefines elegance with its majestic high ceilings, chic oyster-grey colour scheme and contemporary furnishings, offset to perfection by the historic palazzo in which it languishes.
Hunt down the odd remaining 19th-century fresco, and don't miss the garden complete with lemon trees in terracotta pots and rambing ivy.
