More About Hotels near Hillsboro Inlet Light...

Staying on the Inlet

For accommodations with a view of the lighthouse, you can’t do better than the Hillsboro Recreational Cottages. These three cottages were occupied by lighthouse keepers until the automation of the lighthouse. Options include two three-bedroom, two-bath cottages and a one-bedroom, two-bath cottage. The fully furnished cottages include kitchen utensils, beach towels, and charcoal grills so everything you need for an unforgettable stay is right at hand.

The obvious advantage to staying so close to the lighthouse is the opportunity to enjoy unparalleled views and relative privacy. The drawback is that you simply can't escape the nightly illumination when you're nestled beneath it.

Nearby Hotel and Motel Accommodations

If you prefer a traditional hotel that’s not so close to the glow of the lighthouse, there are several options just south of the inlet on A1A. Enjoy a view of the lighthouse from a distance at the Lighthouse Cove Resort. Rooms here include fully equipped kitchens for budget travelers who want to save on dining with convenient meals in the room.

Popular chain hotels are in evidence along this picturesque stretch as well including the Residence Inn Fort Lauderdale Pompano Beach/Oceanfront and the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort & Spa.

Visiting the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse

The picturesque Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse towers above the surrounding buildings, creating a striking picture along the horizon of Hillsboro Beach, Florida. History buffs and lighthouse aficionados can’t help but appreciate this distinctive landmark.

In 1998, the entire lighthouse received a massive renovation which included the replacement of the Fresnel Lens. A grand re-lighting ceremony took place on January 28, 1999. Renewed interest in the lighthouse sparked additional developments and a new project was undertaken later that year to remove the 300-pound vertical drive shaft and modernize machinery that had been in place since 1906. On August 18, 2000, a second re-lighting ceremony took place as the lighthouse cast its glow 28 miles out to sea.

Tours are offered throughout the year by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society. Tours are free for members, or $25 for visitors.
