This landmark is a military airfield and base next to Pearl Harbor. It is full of historical significance because of its role in World War II, which is why it serves as a point of interest in Hawaii. The Pacific Air Force currently calls this field home.
You can’t book a hotel right next to this landmark, since it's still operational for military use. Nonetheless, there are hotels near Hickam AFB that don’t require a long drive, including Airport Honolulu Hotel, Castle Pacific Marina Inn Airport Hotel, and Best Western The Plaza Hotel.
You also have the choice to stay a little farther away in one of the beach hotels or resorts in Honolulu. This gives you prime access to the water and other main tourist activities in Honolulu.
What you might find a downside of staying the closest you can get to Hickam Field is that you’ll end up away from the beaches and the best Hawaiian views. That’s because the hotels with the best proximity are on the highway away from the water.
At the same time, these nearby hotels are still very close to all the best activities Honolulu has to offer. By driving a little, you can save money on your hotel room, which is only for sleeping anyway, right? And these hotels give you the added convenience of being near the airport and major highways, so it’s easy to get to where you want to go.
You can get a visitor pass to the base as well as various specialty passes, including extended passes and passes for foreign visitors. Receive your passes at the Nimitz Visitor Control Center and Pass & ID office.
