More About Hotels near Rice University...

Smart booking is most important when visiting during the late summer months, right before the new school year begins, as the influx of new students and their families to the university causes the nearby hotels to fill up. Other visitors might be forced to stay at hotels further away. Here's how to make sure that doesn't happen on your trip.

The Most Convenient Options

If price is of no concern than the closest hotels to Rice University are the Hilton Houston Plaza, Houston Marriott, and Best Western Plaza. All three are impeccable choices and located within a two block stretch of Main Street just down the road from the university. Due to their large size they usually have availability year round, except for those rare weekends when a convention is in town. Prices are fairly steady year-round and begin around $125 a night for the Best Western and Houston Marriott. Expect to pay a minimum of $250/night for a room at the Hilton Houston Plaza.

Cheap Hotels Near Rice University

For the thrifty travelers there are several lodging options near the university that are easy on the wallet, including Comfort Inn Southwest Parkway and Knights Inn. These might not be within walking distance of the university but luckily Houston has a very reliable public transportation system. Prices for both start around $50.

There is also one marvelous hostel located just down the road from Rice: Houston at the Morty Rich Hostel. The hostel is very highly reviewed and there is no more convenient budget-friendly lodging option anywhere in the city. Complete with a large outdoor pool, billiards table and other entertainment options, hostel aficionados will feel right at home here. And at only $30 a night the price cannot be beat.

Don't Forget About Airbnb

For those who prefer not to stay in hotels or who will be in town longer than a few days, Airbnb provides plenty of lodging options near Rice University. Price and availability on these can vary dramatically over the course of the year, however these are not always ideal for short-term or last-minute visitors.

Transportation Around Houston

Houston's public transportation network is well developed albeit centered mostly around the Metro buses. No matter where you are coming from or where you need to go in Space City a bus stop is never far away. However, the city also has a metro rail line, the red line. Although the singular nature of this line limits its feasibility, the Hermann Park / Rice U station is located directly across the street from the university and could not be more convenient.

Peak Season In The City

Houston is a summer city and most visitors come during the warmer months when local activities and events are at a peak. During the winter offseason prices are a few dollars cheaper and the city is slightly less crowded. Be careful when visiting during national holidays as traffic can become quite bothersome.

Regardless of when in the year you plan to visit Houston, there are a wealth of cheap hotels near Rice University that will appeal to both your needs and your wallet. For those in search of more luxurious lodging, never fear as there are no shortage of classy rooms in Houston.
