Southeast of downtown Houston, you'll find the Sidney Sherman Bridge spanning the Houston Ship Channel. Built in 1974, the bridge got its name after Sidney Sherman, who was influential in improving the Houston Ship Channel's navigation. Dominating the view from anywhere in this part of town, the bridge is 600 feet long and ten lanes wide. It's known for its stunning view at night where you can see the commercial part of town twinkling in the  sky.
