Oak Hill is a residential area, providing a comfortable, quiet stay. While Jacksonville has a public bus system, it doesn't run very late. Taxis are available, but Jacksonville is very spread out, making this an expensive option. It's best to rent a car if you plan to stay in an Oak Hill hotel. Downtown and the Urban Core are conveniently just over 10 miles away.
Your only hotel option in Oak Hill is Hospitality Inn Jacksonville, which has very cheap rates and is near Hyde Park Golf Club and the Museum of Southern History. If you want to be closer to Downtown, you can find cheap hotel rates a bit further north at Knights Inn Jacksonville, Sleep Inn & Suites Jacksonville, Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, or Stars Rest Inn. Similar rates are available in Oak Hill for private room stays on Airbnb, so if you prefer a home-like environment, this is a comfortable option.
Summers in Jacksonville are hot, humid, and often rainy. Even so, summer is the city's peak season, when hotel rates are highest--especially between May and August. If you live somewhere with frigid winters, you'll love visiting Jacksonville during then, when weather is mild and sunny, and hotel rates are lower. Weather is also mild and pleasant in fall and spring, and crowds and hotel prices are lower than summer.
