Cheaper Airfare and Accomodations in the Shoulder Season

The best times to visit Koloa are September to November and April to June. Not only are prices lower because it’s the shoulder season in Hawaii, it’s also the time of year that the weather is most pleasant, with temperatures hovering in the 70s and 80s. It’s best to avoid visiting from December to March, which is Kauai’s very busy (and more expensive) peak season. July and August are also very busy times and should be avoided.

Getting To and From Koloa on a Budget

After landing in Kauai travelers have a few choices of transportation. Many hotels offer airport shuttle service, so be sure to find out if yours does. If not, budget travelers can hop on the local bus for $2.00 per adult but should be prepared to wait because buses run hourly at their most frequent. Taxis and car rentals are, of course, also available at the Lihue Airport.

Luxury resorts abound in Koloa, but cheaper hotel options are available, too. Home to the first sgar plantation in Hawaii, Koloa has a rich history. Visting the the Old Sugar Mill, the Koloa History Center, and Old Town are all execellent ways to dig into the town's unique past.
