Large International Hotel

What would you expect from The Westin Miyako Kyoto?  First, you would expect it to be well placed on a hill overlooking downtown Kyoto, which it is.  It also has a designated cultural property and impeccable grounds, rooms, and extra amenities. Of course, the rooms are in need of some updating along the lines of more modern decor but otherwise are in good condition. With many extra amenities to cater to families, couples, and business travelers, it has the well-balanced offering expected from the Westin brand.

Super Sized

With almost 500 rooms in this large chain hotel, there are views and room occupancy sizes to meet most standard needs. With multiple suite options from luxury and deluxe suites to specialized Japanese-style rooms, guests are welcome to enjoy the cultural differences in a special building catering to this unique living style. Rooms are sized from the standard 25 square meters up to 78 square meters; ensure that you enquire about your required room size.

Minutes From the Historic District

If you want to be in the center of beautiful old-world Japanese gardens nestled in the rolling mountainous hills overlooking the Kyoto historic district, there is no better location than the Westin. Located on the Tozai subway line connecting to the rest of the city’s lines, it provides great access to other destinations around Kyoto. Being within 15 minutes' walking distance to all Higashiyama’s attractions provides a great way to visit the many shrines and temples nestled in the hills.

Full Service with Many Amenities

As a large hotel complex, the Westin provides almost every amenity you can think of including free WiFi, a complimentary area shuttle if you do not want to walk, indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, full-service spa, hair salon, on-site restaurants, a bar and lounge, tennis courts, concierge and business services, fitness facilities, and even a kids club area. No matter your purpose, the hotel simply has an amazing level of service quality and number of amenities available.

The Bottom Line

Unlike Kyoto Hotel Okura, the Westin Miyako Kyoto is closer to the historical district, whereas Okura is located in the downtown core. Both hotels are synonymous with luxury, with the Okura winning out on more modern decor and luxurious updated rooms. The Westin simply provides much more in the way of services, amenities, and activities that you may never have to leave the hotel grounds.

Time Out
The setting can’t be faulted: the 501-room Westin sits against a verdant mountain and boasts gardens by master Jihei Ogawa and his son.
Michelin Guide
This large hotel is divided into a main building, east and south wings, and the Kasuien annexe designed by Togo Murano to resemble a tea ceremony house.
Guest rooms vary, from double to Western/Japanese hybrid and some are designed for long-term stays; ask for one with a view.

A 16-acre compound installed on the tree-covered Higashiyama Hills just outside of Kyoto, this historic 1890 hotel has hosted kings, queens, presidents, and celebrities.
