Ashland Estate is a brick mansion built by one of Kentucky's early statesmen, Henry Clay. The name is derived from the forest of ash trees that once stood on the site. It's been restored to its original glory, and visitors have the opportunity to experience daily life during the early 1800s.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites and the University Inn Hotel-Suites are the closest to the Ashland Estate. While neither are cheap hotels, they are reasonably priced for the area.
Ashland Estate is near downtown Lexington and University of Kentucky. It is a busy section, which may be a drawback for those looking for a quiet place to stay. However, the area is full of restaurants that include places like Brasabana and Oshimi Sushi.
Ashland Estate closes during January and has limited hours in February. It's open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday from March to December, and open Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. April to November.
