Stay in the Alfama District and in the Shadow of the Castle

A Modern Hotel in an Ancient District

The Olissippo Castelo is an independent hotel that's located in the Alfama District and near the Castelo de Sao Jorge. It's located in the Alfama District, one of the oldest sections of the city of Lisbon. The hotel is within walking distance of many historical sites, and is situated in the hills of Lisbon. It's a recently built property that is loaded with modern amenities to make for a comfortable stay.

Explore the Castelo de Sao Jorge and Other Nearby Destinations

The hotel is a short walk to the Castle of Sao Jorge which dates from the Moorish occupation of Portugal. It's a historic site that has regular exhibitions of what life was like in the castle along with archaeological digs.

Lisbon is a city with strong connections to the Catholic Church, and has many medieval and Renaissance-era churches to explore. The oldest building in Lisbon, the Lisbon Cathedral, is within walking distance of the hotel. Visitors can explore the unassuming structure that is more fortress-like than cathedral, and see the baptismal font used to baptize Saint Anthony along with archaeological digs that have revealed remains dating to Visigothic and Roman times. It's also the final resting place of the remains of St. Vincent, the patron saint of Lisbon.

Spacious Rooms With Comfortable Furnishings

Rooms are available in Standard Single and Double, Superior Double, and Suite. Maximum occupancy ranges from one to three guests at a time. All rooms come with free wi-fi Internet access, mini-bar in rooms, in-room safe, private bathroom with bidet, air conditioning, flat-screen TV with satellite service, bathrobes, and slippers. A buffet breakfast is available for an extra charge. Drycleaning and laundry services are available. The front desk operates 24 hours a day.

The Bottom Line

Staff is friendly and attentive to the needs of guests. The breakfast buffet includes both local and international entrees for an interesting variety. One potential problem for some is that the hotel is located in an older part of the city and steep streets are common in the surrounding area. It's not a place for those who have mobility issues. However, the location is an advantage in that rooms offer a beautiful view of the surrounding city. The hotel is a distance from the city center proper, but its location and views make up for the slight inconvenience.
