Stay Near the Tower of London the Eco-Friendly Way

Only a short walk to the Tower of London, the Gherkin, and the Tower Bridge, the DoubleTree Tower of London offers a near-perfect location to central London. If you came to sightsee, the Monument to the Great Fire of London and Trinity Square Gardens is nearby, and you can look toward the river for London Bridge. The Tower Hill Tube station is less than a five-minute walk away, while the Aldgate and Monument Tube stations are also in the area. You're also a short walk to the hop-on, hop-off tour bus, making it easier to get further afield.

Take Advantage of Your Surroundings

Since it's a DoubleTree property, look for your complimentary chocolate chip cookie and classic sense of service and style. Be on the lookout for the USB charging areas to keep your devices ready to go. If you're looking to burn some calories while traveling, the hotel's fitness center is open 24 hours a day. Plenty of cardio equipment and free weights are ready and waiting to help you burn off your indulgences. Also, be sure to ask the concierge for anything you need, from a running route to reservations to tickets for local performances.

When you get hungry, head to the hotel restaurant, City Cafe, for a full menu offering seasonal options and fresh local produce. Another option is the Lobby Bar, a perfect place for breakfast, or the Natural Kitchen for a more relaxed feeling. Alternatively, over a dozen restaurants are along Tower Hill road (A100) or behind the hotel along Crutched Friars, including the Cheshire Cheese.

A number of places to enjoy a pint are nearby, but don't pass up the view from the rooftop Sky Lounge. The photos simply don't do justice to the view. If you must go elsewhere, take a three-minute walk to a pub called The Bavarian Beerhouse.

Expect More From Your Room

After a day full of excitement, head back to your room and enjoy the free wi-fi and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Whether you're looking to finish some work or relax a bit, look for the in-room iMac computer to help with both. Try to get a room facing the river - the higher you go, the better the view!

The four-star, 216-room hotel has children's menus, high chairs, and cribs available if you need them. Alternatively, upgrade to an Executive room on the 9th and 10th floors for complimentary breakfast, late afternoon drinks, and light snacks in the Executive Lounge. If you'd rather have more space, book one of the Suites for a separate living area and some extra assistance from the staff.

The Bottom Line

The location and plethora of services make this an easy choice. It's closer to the Tower of London than the Premier Inn London Bank, classier than the Hotel Indigo London Tower Hill, and better located than Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard.

Top marks for the Skylounge Bar — not the prettiest design, but fabulous outdoor terraces with winter heaters, summer barbies and City views to make you weep
