Built to replace the Southwark Towers, the Shard is a high-rise building that's very close to the London Bridge transit station. Because the surrounding buildings in the neighborhood are mostly made from brick and not nearly as tall as this landmark, which stands more than 1,000 feet tall, was not embraced by some residents who wanted to preserve the neighborhood's appearance.
In addition to offering an excellent view of this towering landmark, the Strand Palace is a hotel within a five-minute walk of the King's College campus. Alternatively, you can expect lovely views while staying at YHA London St Paul's - Hostel. This budget-friendly property puts you within a short walk of London's Stock Exchange.
Choosing a hotel near the Shard gives you easy access to other landmarks such as hospitals, shops, the Southwark Cathedral and various tube stations. However, the Shard is nearly an hour's drive from London Heathrow Airport.
You can enjoy the best views from floors 68, 69, and 72 of the Shard. All tickets have specific dates and times indicating when you must use them, but once you enter, there are no restrictions about how long you can stay. On clear days, you will be able to enjoy views of the surrounding neighborhoods and may be able to see as far as 40 miles away. If the weather is bad, you may have the option of returning later without having to pay for tickets again.
