Whether you are visiting California State University of Long Beach (or simply put, CSULB) to see the one-of-a-kind Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden or to feel the magic of student life, you have made a good choice. Although one of the largest CSU campuses (almost 35,000 people study here!), it doesn't really feel that large and is fun to explore. Finding a proper place to stay in Long Beach might be tricky, especially during peak season, so we'll try to make it easier for you.

More About Hotels near California State University...

Budget Airbnb Accommodations in Long Beach

Airbnb provides a decent list of rooms 10 to 30 minutes by foot from CSULB. Also, it definitely offers the cheapest options in Long Beach, so consider Airbnb if traveling during peak hotel seasons, such as university graduation in May - June, game week, parent weekend or August orientation.

A quick search brings up prices from $45-$70 for a private room to around $100 for a separate apartment. If you are on a really tight budget, you can rent a shared room for around $30. The best part is that you don't have to book too much in advance because there are plenty of options. Booking one week before you come is usually enough.

Affordable Hotels Around the University

Art-deco styled Hotel Current, a short walk from CSULB, is one of the most beloved hotels by tourists coming to Long Beach. Newly renovated double rooms for $111 per night with continental breakfast included, complementary wireless internet access, helpful staff, comfy beds...we could go on!

Another great choice is Best Western Golden Sails hotel*. Although a bit more expensive ($145 for a room with a king-size bed, including full breakfast) and slightly further away at 19 minutes by foot, this place has clean rooms with all the necessary amenities, and a wonderful restaurant with a great view of the water and boats. Another option you might consider is a SeaPort Marina Hotel - from $106 for a double room.

Cheap Motels and Inns

If you're looking for the closest place to CSULB stay at Motel 6 Los Angeles. It takes an 8-minute walk to get to the university, the cheapest rooms are $70 per night, the staff is friendly, and they even allow you to bring your pet up to the room for a small fee.

If great design and service matter to you the most, you should definitely consider a place called Super 8 (from $66 per night). Its interior perfectly conveys the 60s L.A. feel, the breakfast has a variety of food to choose from, the rooms are spacious, and it even has a shoe polishing machine!

Another affordable place to stay, Econo Lodge ($69 for a 1 king bed room) is further away from the university (5 minutes by car) but closer to the airport. It might work well for anyone who is visiting Long Beach for a limited amount of time and has to leave early in the morning or late at night. Ultimately, if your main point of interest is CSULB and you are on tight budget, your go-to website is probably Airbnb.

Motels keep very affordable prices for the low season, however, there are ways to save money during the peak season as well. Booking one or two months in advance, as well as making advantage of hotel discounts might help to save up to 15% of the original price.

California State University in Long Beach is certainly a great place to visit at any time of the year. Whether you are a student coming to visit your friends or a family exploring the West Coast, you will not have problems finding a place that will fit your needs and budget.
