This monument was initially built to remember the brave men and women who served in the First World War but today pays tribute to everyone who lost their lives fighting for Australia. Former WWI veterans Phillip Hudson and James Wardrop designed the shrine, which is Australia’s largest war memorial, in a classical style.
Due to its parkland location, all hotels near the Shrine of Remembrance have stunning views of Kings Domain. Seasons Botanic Gardens, Quest on Dorcas, and Royce Hotel Melbourne are just some of the convenient options.
Hotels near the Shrine of Remembrance offer stunning parkland views. They’re typically not as popular as those closer to the CBD, despite their proximity to many tourist attractions. These hotels also make a great choice if you’re attending the Melbourne Shrine dawn service on ANZAC Day as you’re within walking distance of the early morning event.
The Shrine of Remembrance opens daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Good Friday and Christmas. Expect crowds on ANZAC and Remembrance Days. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
