Things'll Be Great When You're Downtown

No finer place, for sure! Petula Clark knew that it was all about location, and Downtown Memphis is just that. Beale Street is a landmark that's conveniently close to other main attractions by foot or via a historic trolley ride. The Holiday Inn Memphis-Downtown is a nice 5-minute walk from Beale Street and other city landmarks nearby, like the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. The Econolodge offers cheap parking and a more youthful vibe and is also near Sun Studios, which offers a free shuttle to Graceland Estate. Graceland is a great getaway trip from the jazz scene on Beale and is easily accessible by a 15-minute car ride. Do keep in mind that there are some lines to enter Elvis Presley attractions and tours at Graceland.

Many establishments offer free live music or entrance with a small cover fee. If noise and crowds give you the blues, there are hotels within walking distance of Beale Street, like the Hampton Inn & Suites in Downtown Memphis, that offer ear plugs at the front desk. If squealing saxophones and bright neon illuminations make you feel “All Shook Up,” opt for a hotel outside of the central downtown area and closer to the Mississippi River or Mud Island River Park, like the Sleep Inn at Court Square.

Faring the Festivities

Travel bookings are cheaper when reserved well in advance, as prices towards the end of April or the first weekend in May are likely to be higher for hotels near Beale Street Music Festival. This particular music fest kicks off Memphis in May, and is the first of the month-long festivities citywide. Cold Weather Blues

Any time on Beale Street is bound to be a good time. Take note that winters tend to be both chilly and rainy, and summers tend to have temperatures soaring past 90-degrees Fahrenheit. Cooler seasons like April to May or October to November are ideal for travel, but pack for all-weather conditions.
