Getting to the Game On Time

Game day means traffic and lots of it. Depending on the event, shuttle buses are sometimes available, but an easier option is staying close to the stadium.  The Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis is a great value, especially for families, in a quiet neighborhood. There’s even an on-site museum devoted to the founder of Holiday Inn if you’re looking for more educational activities on your trip. Just over two and a half miles from the stadium is the Rodeway Inn. The exterior of this motel does very much say budget travel, but once inside you’ll find clean, comfortable rooms at some of the cheapest rates around.

Red Hot Blues

The Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium is in a largely residential area, so if you’re looking for something else to do on your trip, it’s better to stay nearby in downtown Memphis. Beale Street is the center of the action and the home of the blues in Tennessee. Bars, restaurants and an annual music festival mean there’s always entertainment on hand. A block away from Beale is the Hampton Inn & Suites Memphis, an affordable hotel with generously sized rooms. If you’re worried about noise, ask for room that doesn’t face Beale or the equally lively Third Street. You could stay a few blocks further away at the Madison Hotel. Decorated in album covers and musical notes, this affordable boutique hotel boasts spectacular views of the Mississippi River from its rooftop bar.  An even more affordable option is the Holiday Inn Memphis-Downtown. It offers solid, basic rooms with free Wi-Fi, and is close to many downtown attractions.

For all downtown Memphis hotels, check with the front desk about shuttles or driving directions to the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Many homes around the stadium offer deals on parking during major events, so have a look around before you park.
