Memphis International Airport was designed to be America's only "aerotropolis," or hub for a surrounding economic region. This concept has been an important part of Memphis's growth plan, and it makes hotels near the airport uniquely appealing. Airport hotels are also near Graceland and convenient to downtown Memphis, so cheap airport hotels offer a great deal on lodging that's close to everything.

More About Hotels near Memphis International...

Choosing a Cheap Airport Hotel

There are a number of cheap hotels surrounding Memphis International Airport, and quite a few of them are clean and comfortable. The Courtyard by Marriott welcomes you with a newly renovated lobby and healthy selections in the Bistro restaurant for much less than you might pay elsewhere. The Hilton Memphis pampers you with comfortable rooms, a pool, an executive lounge, and a tasty breakfast for an affordable price.

La Quinta Inn & Suites serves up clean rooms, comfortable beds, and a hearty breakfast at a very cheap price. If you've come to hear great Memphis music, the Executive Inn has a lounge with live bands that perform the blues in the evenings. And you have to at least consider Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel, a vintage motel with a heart-shaped pool.

Midrange hotels populate the Southaven area just south of the airport. The Southaven Inn Express has a sparkling pool and clean, cozy rooms where you can sleep peacefully. The Quality Inn Southaven has similar amenities, and you can choose a standard or business room.

A Taxi Coordinator Makes Your Life Easy

To find your hotel shuttle, look for overhead signs outside the baggage claim area that will direct you to the right stop. If your hotel doesn't offer free shuttle service, find the taxi booth near the terminal B baggage claim, where a taxi coordinator is on hand to answer your cab-related questions. If you're looking for rental cars, they are located on the first two levels of the economy parking facility — look for the moving sidewalks that will connect you to the rental agencies.

Don't Look for Food at the Airport if You Arrive Late

Most of the restaurants in the airport close their doors as early as 7:00 p.m. Lenny's Sub Shop and the Sun Studios Cafe are open until 8:00. After that, you'll have to look for food elsewhere. Most of the larger hotels have restaurants, but if you're headed to a smaller motel, you'll find the airport surrounded by fast-food options that are open late.

Find the Fun in Memphis

Memphis is known as the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll, so naturally you'll want to check out the music scene while you're in town. Besides Graceland and Sun Studios, there are scores of live music venues and festivals in the city. You'll want to taste the local Southern-style barbecue and soul food while you're in Memphis, too. Pick up guidebooks, event calendars, and other tourist treasures at the Memphis tourism website.
