Historic Architecture and Affordable Dining
The homes of the Milwaukee Avenue Historic District display original brick and timber architecture. Slated for demolition by the city in the 1970s, a group of residents rallied to preserve the historical nature of their neighborhood and had Milwaukee Avenue listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. A few restaurants are found near Milwaukee Avenue. For budget-friendly pub-style food, opt for the daily special at Tracy’s Saloon and Eatery. Try Seaward Cafe for organic vegan fare.
The Milwaukee Avenue Historic District is a residential neighborhood and the nearest hotels are in downtown Minneapolis and near the University of Minnesota. Downtown hotels offer convenient walking access to the Minneapolis Convention Center and Target Center arena. Cars are not permitted on Milwaukee Avenue and public parking is limited. However, there is budget-friendly public bus service from downtown and the University of Minnesota to Milwaukee Avenue every 20 minutes.
