What’s Castro Adobe?

Castro Adobe was built in 1849 and has the distinction of having the first indoor kitchen in Santa Cruz. It is a California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house also had the first dance floor in the county. This house was very advanced for its time. It was the first, and, thus far, the only two-story hacienda ever built in the county. The Castro Abode, the governing seat for the Castro family that moved from Sinaloa, Mexico during the 1775–1776 Anza Expedition, also had a dance floor called the fandango room.
