“Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection.”
North of Sherbrooke, wedged between the Mountain and Frontenac you have the hip trendy area known as the Plateau. With its signature "Montreal ginger-bread" Victorian houses and their outdoor winding staircases, the Plateau offers a quaint European vibe. The 40-hectare Parc La Fontaine is a popular spot for bicyclists, joggers, ice skaters, and tennis buffs. During summer months, you can catch a free outdoor show at its Théâtre de Verdure. Avenue du Mont-Royal, one of the Plateau's main shopping districts provides a view of the Parc Olympic on the east end, and the Mountain on the west. Visits to Schwartz's Deli to experience Montreal's smoked meat, as well as Frite Alors! for some poutine are highly recommended. For upscale dining try Le Pistou on Mont-Royal for the French/Mediterranean fare. If you seek a hot trendy bar in the area, visit The Belmont on St. Laurent.
