Seafront Hotel With Memorable Views

Conveniently Located, Old World Elegance

Constructed in 1908, Hotel Excelsior is five minutes from Naples’ city center and 15 minutes from Palazzo Reale Napoli (Royal Palace of Naples), Teatro di San Carlo (Royal Theatre of Saint Charles), Castell dell’Ovo, Galleria Umberto, and San Francesco di Paola. The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast. La Terrazza, a roof restaurant with spectacular views, serves gourmet Neapolitan and Mediterranean cuisine for dinner. Business travelers appreciate having access to a business center and meeting room. The hotel offers babysitting and childcare services at a surcharge, which is convenient for parents wanting to have a night out.

Walk to Sightseeing Venues

The Bourbon kings lived in the Royal Palace of Naples from 1730 to 1860. Walk through the rooms, viewing artwork and period furnishings. Attend an opera or ballet performance in the Royal Theatre of Saint Charles, next to the palace. Attend opera performances from January to May and ballet productions from April to June. Castell dell’Ovo, a former royal residence, was once on an island separated from the mainland. The land mass having spread, the castle is now on a peninsula connected to the mainland.

Go Shopping, Visit a Church, or View Artwork

Galleria Umberto is more than just a shopping mall — it's a multi-purpose facility. There are restaurants, shops, and offices on two levels. Apartments are on the top floor. San Francesco di Paola is an 18th century church containing many works of art. Palazzo delle Arti Napoli is a museum and art gallery in an unusual setting — a pink palace constructed in the 16th century. Fountain of the Giant (also known as Fontana del Gigante and La Fontana dell'Immacolatella), constructed in the 17th century, is near Castell dell’Ovo.

Superior and Deluxe Rooms

Superior and deluxe rooms at Hotel Excelsior have high ceilings and parquet floors. The beds have linen sheets and silk covers. The marble-tiled bathrooms have a shower and bathtub combination. Deluxe rooms also have a balcony with a view of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

The Bottom Line

Hotel Excelsior's lavish elegance is not found on many properties. The rooms are large, with a nostalgic décor and modern features such as wireless Internet access (at a surcharge) and pay movies. Important sightseeing venues are within walking distance. Grand Hotel Parker's is comparably priced, but it is not on the seafront, and many places to visit are a mile or two away.
