Grand Hotel Vesuvio: Popular with Celebrities

Convenient Seafront Location With Great Views

Grand Hotel Vesuvio, a five-star hotel on the seafront overlooking the Bay of Naples, has views of Mount Vesuvius and the islands of Capri and Ischia. The property’s well-known visitors have included King Gustav of Sweden, King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Bill Murray, Errol Flynn, Giorgio Armani, Luciano Pavarotti, and Sofia Loren. The hotel features an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and fitness facility. Caruso Roof Garden Restaurant, named for frequent guest Enrico Caruso, serves classic Neapolitan cuisine. Kosher, gluten-free, and low-calorie meals are available.

Nearby Palace, Theater, and Castle

The nearby Royal Palace of Naples (Palazzo Reale Napoli), constructed in the 17th century, is within walking distance. Don't miss this residence used by the Bourbon kings from 1730 to 1860. Royal Theatre of Saint Charles (Teatro di San Carlo), connected to the Royal Palace, is the world’s oldest continuously operating opera house. The theatre features opera productions from January to May and ballet performances from April to June. Castell dell’Ovo, a former fortress and royal residence, is on a peninsula (once the island of Megaride), across from the hotel.

Vesuvietta and Echia Club

The ports of Mergellina and Beverello are both a five-minute walk from Grand Hotel Vesuvio. Boats leave from these ports to Capri and Ischia. Rather than go to either port, use the services of Vesuvietta, the hotel’s private cabin cruiser, to get to the Amalfi Coast and the Isle of Capri, a 30-minute ride. Echia Club is the hotel’s relaxation center and fitness facility. Use the cardiovascular equipment, swim in the pool, enjoy a steam bath, or relax in the sauna or Jacuzzi.

Spacious Guest Rooms with Elegant Décor

All guest rooms have air conditioning, minibar, safe, desk, and satellite television service with pay-per-view movies. The beds have linen sheets. The marble bathrooms feature the hotel’s exclusive line of personal care products. Some rooms have seafront views, and some have terraces in a direct line with Castell dell’Ovo.

The Bottom Line

Grand Hotel Vesuvio, a Leading Hotels of the World property, has the best views of any hotel in Naples. The hotel has elegant décor and serves memorable meals. The staff’s service is impeccable.  The hotel’s private cabin cruiser provides transportation to venues in the Bay of Naples. Limousine service is available. Other hotels in Naples have seaside views, but no property is comparable to Grand Hotel Vesuvio.
