“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”
Hop on the streetcar headed Uptown and ride to where the street bends: this is the beginning of the Carrollton area. Once plantation land, this area is now defined by quaint shops, restaurants, bars and coffeehouses. Stop by O'Henry's for a great burger, but watch your step—it's a quirky local custom to throw peanut shells on the floor. If these blocks have a college-town feel, that's because you're close to the campuses of Tulane and Loyola universities. If you're in town in the third weekend of November, the Oak Street Po-boy Festival is the best place to sample scrumptious seafood sandwiches. If you're traveling with kids, take the streetcar to the end of the line (or drive) to Carrollton and Claiborne and stop by Palmer Park, a quiet neighborhood park where the kids can run free and play.
