More About Hotels near Prudential Center...

Cheap Rooms with Airbnb

For leisure travelers and hockey fans, booking outside of traditional hotels can offer the best value and insight into the surrounding areas. Newark has five political wards, each with very distinct personalities. Airbnb offers choices throughout Newark, from the gritty entertainment area in Ironside to the historic section. Most of the Airbnb rooms in Newark are singles; some private, some shared, but all well under $100.

Travelers don't need a car due to the efficient public transportation offerings. Visitors can get to Manhattan in about 20 minutes from most Newark locales.

Availability is generally good throughout the city and booking a month or two in advance should be sufficient for a nice room. However, if the Devil's make the playoffs, fans can expect sellouts on rooms in the area.

Winter Brings Great Rates

Hockey fans are fortunate in this town. Since the Devils biggest rivals are local, fans don't have a great need for hotel rooms. They jump on the subway, transit, or busses, catch a game and then go home. This means downtown hotel rates during big games (like with cross-town rivals the Rangers), don't become amazingly expensive like they do in some cities.

Save money on a hotel by catching a game after the holidays. Travel is down in January and February, and hotels drop their rates by 50 percent.

Motels Sell Out During Rivalries

While there are a number of hotels available during cross-town rivalry games, motels do sell out. Fans frequently meet up at these local motels and make a weekend tailgating party out of it. For visitors who want to stay in a motel under 10 miles from the arena, book at least three months in advance.

Airport Accommodations are the Cheapest

While there aren't any hostels in Newark, there are a couple of extremely inexpensive motels by the airport. The rooms in the Travelodge Newark Airport and the America's Best Value Inn - Newark Airport are priced similarly to hostels at less than $40 a night during much of hockey season. If you don't mind a location off of the Garden Expressway, you can save a lot of money. Some even have shuttles to the local bus stop for easy, inexpensive transportation.

One of the Most Accessible Arenas

The Prudential Center is one of the most easily accessible sports arenas in the nation. There are 3,500 parking spaces within two blocks of the building, and it is two blocks away from Penn Station. Through New Jersey Transit, visitors from New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia can easily access the center. PATH means easy access to and from Manhattan, Hoboken, and Jersey City. No matter where you stay, the center is easily accessible for the budget traveler.

Hockey season is a great time to visit Newark, New Jersey. Cooler weather brings more affordable hotel rates and with public transportation readily available, visitors don't have to worry about driving in snow or ice, or scraping windshields. Book a trip through Hipmunk for the best rates on your Newark stay.
