Since 1867 Rideau Hall housed dignitaries and leaders. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has her Diamond Jubilee portrait hanging on the wall for all to admire. On tour, don’t miss the grand Waterford Crystal chandelier or the Crown Collection of furniture and art residing as part of Canada’s official residence. Guides are available for tours. Finally, enjoy the seasonal activities and special exhibits depicting the history of the hall and grounds.
Byward Blu Inn is cheap and a little more than a half mile from Rideau Hall. Lord Elgin Hotel and the Econo Lodge Downtown are inexpensive and nearby as well. Les Suites Hotel Ottawa is another good choice.
Rideau Hall is an incredible place to learn and discover. It may take a few days to see it all. By staying near it, Canadian history comes alive. In the summertime you may even get to see a game of Cricket. Walk the beautiful and colorful gardens one day and tour the next.
All tours and activities are free of charge. To be sure of admission, make your reservation 48 hours in advance.
