Tourism Season And The Weather

Peak season for tourism is January through April as there is a maximum amount of sun and minimal rain. However along with peak season comes peak prices. The best time to visit to save money without having to sacrifice sunshine is in late November and December, when you can find early bird Phuket hotel deals. Likewise you can also catch some end -of-the-season deals in early May.

By contrast, the low season is from May to October when rainfall is at its greatest. For those searching for deep discounts and who are not afraid of a little rain, this is the time of year with unbeatable prices on cheap hotels in Phuket.

Transportation Around Phuket

After landing at the airport, most guests need to get to Patong, and luckily there is now direct shuttle service. Buses leave every 45 minutes throughout the day and only cost 120 baht. The journey takes about 90 minutes.

Once visitors have arrived in Patong, most everywhere they need or want to go is within walking distance. Don't want to walk? Don't worry: there are plenty of transportation options in Phuket. The most of common option are the songthaews, essentially converted pickup trucks that now serve as miniature buses. Rides cost 40 baht or less and riders can hop on and off wherever they desire. Tuk-tuks are also commonplace but sadly are also well-known for over-charging tourists. As such, they are not the best option for budget-savvy travelers.

Metered taxis available, and they are by far the safest and most comfortable form of transportation around the island, albeit a bit more expensive. Unfortunately, they can be a bit hard to hail sometimes, so it is best to have your hotel order one whenever necessary. There are also motorcycle taxis, one of the cheapest ways to get around and great for short hops.

Patong: The Heart Of Phuket

Patong is located on the west coast of the island and is the heart of tourism. There are a variety of cheap hotels and resorts in and around town, such as Burasari Resort Patong and Blue Ocean Resort & Spa. Located mere meters away, both resorts offer top level service at affordable prices. Patong Beach is a two-minute walk, and everything else your heart desires can be found within a farther five-minute walk.

For those searching for a budget hotel in Phuket, there are plenty of options located around Patong. Popular choices include the Patong Max Value Hotel and Modern Place Patong Beach. After all, with so many fun things to do in Phuket who wants to spend all day in a hotel room? These hotels provide you with everything you need: a comfortable bed, a cold refrigerator, and of course air conditioning and hot water, and they leave you feeling like a champion for maximizing your budget.

Finally there are also several prominent boutique hotels in Patong such as Lemongrass Hotel and Bamboo Beach Hotel And Spa. They both offer large, clean rooms with air conditioning, mini bars and all the other modern comforts without breaking the bank. This leaves you free to spend your money on other more fun things, such as some of Phuket's amazing sights.

Relax On The Beach And Lose Yourself

There are dozens of beaches scattered around the island, but obviously the most popular one is the three-kilometer-long Patong Beach. It offers great swimming and the closest possible proximity to everything important, from cold drinks to fresh food and fun activities, both on and off the water. Other top Phuket beaches include Paradise Beach, Kata Beach, and Freedom Beach, although the latter is only accessible during the peak tourist season.

Looking to escape the crowds? There are plenty of other beaches on the island that offer relaxation at a more subdued pace.

Naithon Beach on the northern portion of the western shore is a great starter. It is located fairly close to the airport and has just enough nearby amenities to keep visitors satisfied without giving the impression that they have been forever shipwrecked on a remote island. Of course, if that is the sensation one is looking for, Banana Beach is one of the last great hidden beaches of Phuket. It is located near Naithon Beach but is notoriously tricky to find. Ask a local.

Indulge In The Island's Top Activities

Aside from all the water-based fun, there are plenty of other activities around Phuket that can be done on the shore as well. These include the wildly popular tiger kingdom, catching a match at the Patong Boxing Stadium and visiting some of the island's temples, such as Suwan Khiri Wong Temple (also known as Patong Temple) and Wat Chalong in Phuket Town.

For foreign visitors who want to learn as much as experience, even more options are available. Phuket Thaihua Museum is an amazing place that offers an in-depth and informative look at how Phuket developed and grew to be the tourist mecca that it is nowadays. The Phuket Butterfly Garden & Insect World and Phuket Aquarium, both of which are also located in Phuket Town, also provide educational experiences and lots of information on the island's native species.

And finally for pure over-the-top, fun  watch the Phuket Cobra Show or catch a performance at the Danze Fantasy Theatre. The Phuket Cobra Show is comprised of one person with four cobras and is utterly riveting! However, events at the Danze Fantasy Theatre are so spectacular that they take everyone's cameras and mobile phones away from them prior to the show so that no one can capture it. Both shows have a tendency to leave visitors impressed and eager to return to this stunning island!

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure to book a cheap hotel and put the money you save towards having more fun!
