Taxi service from the downtown area can be had for a flat rate for up to four travelers. Ride worry-free for between $30 and $35. Those hoping to save money can take MAX light rail from many points of the city right to the front of the airport for just $2.50 per person.

Almost all the hotels surrounding the Portland Airport have their own restaurants, but you’ll also find a great selection of restaurants, cafés and coffee shops in the airport itself. Local fast-food favorite, Burgerville, serves quick and tasty eats with fresh-made ingredients. Petite Provence is an offshoot of a French bistro chain, making fresh croissants daily that are served with homemade raspberry jam. They also have fantastic coffee drinks and homemade sandwich specialties each day.

Just a mile or so from the airport is Cascade Station, a dining and shopping area. Ten restaurants reside here and all are affordable for travelers on a budget. From quick service eateries like Taco Del Mar and Panda Express to sit-down favorites Buffalo Wild Wings, IHOP, Red Robin and Famous Dave’s BBQ. There is something here for everyone’s tastes and budget.

General Resources to Streamline Your Trip

Making your way around the Portland Metropolitan area and beyond is fairly easy, and though you can get around via public transportation, a rental car always makes it a bit more convenient, especially if you have hopes of driving outside of the Portland to the beach or the mountains or indulging in a winery tour for tasting the local varieties. PDX has all the rental car companies you love to use. On the airport property, you can rent from Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National. If you’re willing to head off-site on a shuttle, you can also choose from Alamo, Budget and Thrifty.

For all the great things happening around town, make sure to check out the Travel Portland website or pick up a free Willamette Week. This weekly paper comes out every Wednesday and lists all current movies, festivals and events, performances, art exhibits and more.

Portland International Airport has been commended for it’s easy navigability, great shops and eating establishments and on-time flights. Whether you’re in town for business or pleasure, remember that Hipmunk can help you streamline your travel arrangements.
