More About Hotels near Portland International Raceway...

What’s Portland International Raceway?

Vanport, a city made of quickly constructed public housing, was destroyed in 1948 due to flooding from the Columbia River. The Portland International Raceway was built on this site when races took place as part of the annual Portland Rose Festival. At that time, it was called “West Delta Park” and races were quite dangerous due to surrounding bodies of water and broken concrete pieces that could cause problems for drivers. In the 1970s, paving took place to improve the safety of the track. It underwent a renovation in 2007 and reopened in February 2008. The City of Portland currently owns it, and E.C. Mueller operates the venue.
