More About Hotels near Washington Park...

What’s Washington Park?

This park sits on over 400 acres that have steep elevation changes, ranging from 870 feet to 200 feet in certain areas. It is also home to the Oregon Zoo and Hoyt Arboretum, which take up 251 of its acres. The original park sat on almost 41 acres, purchased for the astronomical sum of $32,624 in 1871. At that time, thick brush and roaming wild animals kept people away, but within a few decades, development produced roads, trails, and landscaped areas that brought visitors to the park. The zoo has been part of the park since 1887 but has moved twice to accommodate the increasing number of animals. The park also includes the International Rose Test Garden, Portland Japanese Garden, World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, Oregon Holocaust Memorial, and many other attractions.
