It was once an ordinary cement wall in Mala Strava near the French Embassy. Today as before, it’s an expression of love, peace, and individual expression. Why is it called the Lennon Wall? After John Lennon, of course.

More About Hotels near Lennon Wall...

What’s Lennon Wall?

In the 1980s during anticommunist days, the youth of Prague acted out with wall graffiti in favor of John Lennon’s peace and freedom. His songs and lyrics were banned from Prague during communistic rule. But, he was a hero to the young. During the dark of the night, they wrote some of his lyrics, drew a yellow submarine, and expressed their personal freedom on this cement wall. In fact, Lennon’s original portrait is still visible from far away under the many cover-ups after his death. The Knights of the Maltese Cross own the wall and decided to keep its colorful graffiti as a symbol of freedom.
