The Rosita Hotel — Rustic Lodgings on the Boardwalk

What do the Rooms Include?

Rooms at the Rosita Hotel feature either a panoramic view of Puerto Vallarta or a lovely view of the ocean. All rooms have a private terrace or balcony and come with free Wi-Fi and cable TV. The pared-down rooms suggest a bungalow ambience with plenty of windows to let in the cool ocean breeze.

Basic Amenities on a Budget

The budget-friendly rates at this cheap Puerto Vallarta hotel belie the host of amenities available at the Rosita Hotel. The hotel has the distinction of being one of Puerto Vallarta's earliest hotels; it retains its original authentic Mexican architecture and charm. In fact, the 1962 film "The Night of the Iguana" featured scenes in the Hotel Rosita.

The hotel offers an expansive complimentary breakfast buffet each morning from 8 to 10 a.m. with a huge selection of fruit, cereals, breakfast meats, soups, omelettes made to order, and traditional Mexican specialties. There is also a full-service restaurant, Agave, which is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and features fresh seafood and Mexican cuisine. In addition, an intimate bar/lounge serves regional beers and cocktails as well as top shelf liquors.

There is a small outdoor pool with lovely ocean views and plenty of sun lounges and umbrellas. The beach is just steps away; there are rugged natural rocky sections interspersed with smooth sand areas perfect for sunbathing. The rooftop sun terrace with reclining lounges and covered tables is perfect for enjoying an afternoon cocktail or snack. Guests can enjoy the shaded courtyard complete with gurgling fountain and manicured gardens.

What are the Rates Like?

Rates for Standard and Double rooms range from below $100 to $250 depending on when you travel. If your dates are flexible and budget is an issue, look at rates for a variety of dates before booking.

What’s the Bottom Line?

Like the Hotel Pescador, the Rosita Hotel is a tribute to the history of Puerto Vallarta's tourism industry. Its unbeatable central location and proximity to Malecon make it a perfect choice for any travelers on a budget.

Expert Reviews
What started as a sleepy 12-room hostelry—one of Puerto Vallarta's very first—is now a busy 115-room downtown hotel.
Request a room facing the water, as much for the view as for the natural light; rooms facing the street are dark, making them feel cramped.
