This sports stadium completed construction in 1929 and the construction for this project cost $80,000. Prior to becoming the site where the Richmond Knickers play their games, the University of Richmond football team used the field there for 80 years. The last university football game took place in December of 2009 and all games afterward were held at the newly constructed E. Claiborne Robins Stadium, built on the school’s campus. In 1983, owners changed its name to University of Richmond Stadium (also called UR Stadium) due to a lease agreement with the school. After they stopped leasing, the owners changed the name back to City Stadium.
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Richmond Downtown is an upscale property that features a rooftop pool deck. Comfort Inn Conference Center Midtown is also close to the stadium.
During soccer season, a hotel room close to the stadium likely becomes noisy due to the shouts of cheering fans.
City Stadium seats about 22,000 people so traffic before and after games will be a limitation to visiting the stadium.
