An Art Deco Delight in the Heart of Rome

Overlooking the Temple of Vesta

The Fortyseven Preferred Hotel is in a 1930s era art deco building, just one block from the River Tiber. The hotel overlooks the ancient edifice of the Temple of Vesta, where the Vestal Virgins once tended the flame of Vesta's hearth. The Fortyseven is in the heart of the historic center of Rome, less than a mile from the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum.

Watch the Sunset from the Rooftop Restaurant

The Fortyseven boutique hotel is crowned with the Circus Rooftop Restaurant, where you can enjoy breathtaking views while you enjoy a glass of wine, a cocktail, or an elegant Italian dinner. Make a dinner reservation for just before sundown, so you can watch the sunset and then see the city light up as night falls.

Fuel up with an American-style buffet breakfast, then jog along a trail beside the Tiber River. There's a health club one kilometer from the hotel with aerobics and yoga classes. Be sure to check out the hotel's collection of art during your stay, including original paintings in the breakfast room and two Mastroianni sculptures in the courtyard.

From the hotel, it's only a short a short walk to Circus Maximus, the Arch of Janus, San Giorgio al Velabro, the Mouth of Truth and the Marcellus Theater. A hop-on, hop-off bus tour will take you further around the city, or ask the front desk staff to arrange a car for you if you'd like to go someplace special in Rome.

Fortyseven Rooms

The hotel's rooms come in classic, deluxe, junior suite, suite, and executive styles. If you book an executive room, you are guaranteed a view of the city. The two suites on the fifth floor are the most coveted, as they have private terraces with panoramic views of the temples of ancient Rome. All the rooms reflect an elegant art deco style, with light colors and surfaces of parquet, marble, glass, and steel. Original drawings by Mastroianni, Greco, Modigliani, Quagliata and Guccione decorate each room. The hotel offers turn-down service, or, for total indulgence, you can arrange an in-room massage.

The Bottom Line

The Fortyseven Preferred is comparable to several nearby hotels, like the Capo d'Africa and the Kolbe Hotel. The Fortyseven is closer to the river, so if you're interested in jogging or walking along the Tiber, it's perfectly situated for that. The Circus Restaurant also sets the Fortyseven apart. The Capo d'Africa serves its breakfast buffet on a rooftop terrace, but the restaurant is inside the hotel. The 1930s building and art deco are also unique to the Fortyseven, as is its art collection. The Kolbe's decor is a fusion of medieval and contemporary, and Capo d'Africa is fully modern.

Overall, the Fortyseven will meet your needs if you're looking for a well-priced four-star hotel within walking distance of Rome's historic attractions, where you can enjoy an elegant evening meal and a collection of original artworks.
