A Former Palace Still Worthy of a Tsar

The Taleon Imperial Hotel has the distinct honor of being the only hotel in St. Petersburg to be located in a former palace. The 5-star Taleon is one of the most upscale hotels in this imperial City of the Tsars and has been expanded and renovated in order to preserve the historic heritage of the building, thus linking the past with the present. Guests of the hotel, the former Eliseev Palace, will find a blend of old-world Russian grandeur with state-or-the-art modern amenities. The Taleon’s signature restaurant features formal Russian cuisine including an array of caviar. Further first-rate amenities include a rooftop spa and swimming pool.

World-Class Art within Walking Distance

The Taleon, located in the heart of historic St. Petersburg, is just a five-minute walk from the revered Hermitage Museum, one of the largest and oldest museums in the world. The hermitage has a permanent exhibit of Renaissance, Dutch, and French art, as well as the art of ancient Greece and Italy. It also showcases ancient relics of the culture and art of Eurasia and Russian culture and art of the first half of the 18th century. The hotel is also situated on the banks of the Moyka River where watercraft await to give tours of the city from the water.

Unique and Exquisite

Each one of the Taleon’s 120 soundproofed guest rooms and suites is unique. Hotel renovations have been faithful to the exquisite standards of the Eliseev family, who lived here up until the 1917 Revolution. From its Superior room up to its Emperor suite, the Taleon Imperial offers complimentary Wi-Fi, the finest in bathroom amenities, and even butler service. The hotel also features some of the finest dining to be found in St. Petersburg. Authentic Russian cuisine at the Victoria restaurant is coupled with panoramic views of the nearby Kazan Cathedral, while the eponymous Taleon was three times voted “the best luxurious restaurant in St. Petersburg.”

The Bottom Line

The Taleon Imperial Hotel is nothing short of regal and in its day as a palace hosted noted figures such as Catherine the Great. Today it is still worthy of royalty, having maintained much of the opulence of the former palace, which is why it is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World and Virtuoso. Additionally, Condé Nast Traveler has named the Taleon Imperial Hotel among the 100 best hotels in the world. Due to the hotel’s stately rooms, fine dining, and abundant amenities, any guest at this majestic St. Petersburg gem is sure to feel like a king or queen.

Lonely Planet
The Taleon Imperial Hotel is a grand, gaudy affair where every tap is gold-plated, every towel monogrammed and every room decorated with real and reproduction antiques.
The hotel conjures up plenty of grandeur and romance: Guest rooms are awash in light-gold wall coverings, marble-topped furniture, and loads of inlay and ornate plasterwork.
