More About Hotels near San Antonio Museum of Art...

Because of the museum's proximity to the Near East Side neighborhood, it's wise to also try to tour this multicultural neighborhood that extends from I-H35 to Alamo Heights. A walk past important landmarks like Lambermont on East Grayson Street or Bullis House Inn on Pierce Street easily propels a tourist back in time to the latter half of the 19th century.

Being on the edge of downtown has its advantages, due to being a few blocks from the River Walk and HemisFair Park, or the spectacular Tower of the Americas. Also, the best concentration of restaurants is right there on the River Walk, with a stroll along the river that's easy on the eyes.

Streetcar to Budget Hotels by the San Antonio Museum of Art

When booking affordable hotels, stick to ones that allow you to walk or take a streetcar, best for tired feet after a day of sightseeing.

Situated midway between downtown and the Pearl, the Wyndham Garden San Antonio Riverwalk has views of the San Antonio River but far from the party scene at the River Walk. Or try the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel, though lacking views of the river, it does have a relaxed atmosphere with a pool for swimming.

To go really budget, book Hotel Indigo San Antonio Riverwalk, a slightly nicer hotel than the basic Travelodge San Antonio Alamo, but both are suitable.

Making the Most of the San Antonio Museum of Art

There's no set time to visit them during the year -- rain or shine works. Check the museum website for visiting times, but note that general admission is free on Tuesdays from 4 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The San Antonio Museum of Art was once an association chartered in 1925. During the 1970's, the museum acquired several collections which prompted a move to the vacated lands of the Lone Star Brewery Complex. The museum standing today opened in 1981 to the public.

Since the museum's inception, it has emphasized art collections from the Americas, bound in the deep roots of Texas; including pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, and Latin American folk art -- along with collections from a variety of other world cultures.
