Home of the San Diego State Aztecs men's basketball and women's basketball teams, it has hosted the men's NCAA basketball tournament first and second rounds in 2001, 2006, and 2014 in addition to hosting the WCW Bash at the Beach in 1998. In addition to being a prominent sporting events facility in San Diego, the arena also hosts a number of major music acts including Foo Fighters, Janet Jackson, and Drake.
For $63 per night, enjoy your stay at the Howard Johnson Inn where you will be conveniently located near the arena. Other nearby options include Best Western Lamplight Inn & Suites at SDSU for $85 per night and Navajo Lodge for an average of $59 per night. All of these options put you close to Viejas Arena, making them excellent choices if your primary reason for visiting San Diego is to experience the arena.
The benefits to staying near the arena is being close to any event you may be in town for, alleviating the added stress of calling a cab or trying to find transportation to and from the arena to your hostel. However, this area is also typically crowded with college students and visitors, so it may not be as quiet as other areas in San Diego. That being said, if you're looking for exciting night life, staying near the Viejas Arena is the place for you.
It's important to always arrive at least an hour in advance before any event at Viejas Arena. When booking your tickets, contact the Viejas Arena management office about booking inquiries. The box office is located next to the main entrance at Gate 2 and can be accessed from 55th Street.
