The Geary Parkway Motel is located less than a mile from the Neptune Society Columbarium, making it ideal for those who want to stay on a budget within walking distance of the site. See the Final Resting Place of San Francisco’s Elite

The Neptune Society Columbarium is the only non-denominational burial pace within San Francisco's city limits that is open to the public and that has spaces available. More than 8,000 internment spaces are included in the original columbarium, with more being added through new construction. Many of the city’s high-profile residents have their final resting place in this repository for human ashes. The columbarium is free to visit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Call ahead to request a guided tour with the caretaker.

Explore Nearby Attractions

Staying close to the Neptune Society Columbarium means that you'll be conveniently situated between two of San Francisco's biggest attractions. The Presidio, a 1,480-acre park and former military base, is located just north of the columbarium and features gorgeous vistas, wooded areas, and old military buildings. Also nearby is Golden Gate Park, which is actually larger than New York City's Central Park. Golden Gate Park features a number of top San Francisco venues, including the De Young Museum, the Academy of Sciences, and the National AIDS Memorial Grove. Accommodations in this area are sparse, however, so finding a hotel room downtown will be easier for last-minute travelers.
