Learn to Love BART

Reaching the Sunset District is the first hurdle to overcome. The key to affordable, convenient transportation is the Bay Area Rapid Transit. The Dale City BART station includes the Muni 28, which services the Sunset, Parkmerced, Richmond, and Marina districts in town. Consider staying at the Lombard Motor Inn. It is not the closest hotel to the Muni 28, but it offers the best combination of reasonable prices and acceptable crowd levels -- but keep in mind that crowds will always be an issue during your stay.

Catch a Wave Then Hug a Panda

Visit during the summer to take advantage of Pacific Ocean living. Surfers should bring their boards when they stay at the Days Inn San Francisco at the Beach. The room rates are quite affordable, and the property is located right across the street from the San Francisco Zoo.

Enjoy a Cable Car Ride

A stay in San Francisco will also include a few rides on their legendary cable cars. The last such system remaining in the world, this cable car system provides stylish albeit bumpy transportation to all the major San Francisco activities. An excellent choice for a property near the cable cars is Hotel Carlton, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel. Its location is only three blocks away from the California Street access point. It is not in the Sunset District itself, but its pricing is similar to hotels that are.

Due to the proximity of the Sunset District to the Golden Gate Bridge and the accompanying tourist options, guests will have plenty of choices regarding how to spend their free time. If you want to be closer to the action, you may have to splurge a bit. The Hotel Drisco and Laurel Inn, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel are both only minutes away, but their costs can be double those of properties located in the Sunset District.
